Greetings from VKMfanHuey!!!
Welcome to the Gingerology blog for the 1941 RKO film, Tom, Dick and Harry!!!
Ginger plays the role of Janie, who is not surprisingly being courted by three different fellows... Tom, Dick, and Harry (not necessarily in that order). Janie accepts marriage proposals from all three... which of course results in a lot of tension and confusion between all parties involved. Jamie must ultimately choose between a rich dude, a workaholic dude, and a carefree dude... who knows where she will end up!
Please note the 'menu' above, which has various information regarding the film; to the right (just below the Gingerology link) there are additional links regarding the film.
Please feel free to leave a comment with any general info, links, pics, or just to say hi!
...And be sure to check out our 'main' site, Gingerology - just click on the Ginger pic to the right. There you'll find a list of ALL of Ginger Rogers' films; click on any one, and you will be directed to a 'dedicated' blog about that film (not unlike this blog).
Keep It Gingery, y'all!

GingerBinge Film #1... Post-viewing thoughts...
First off - I will say that the first few times I watched this film, I was a bit... uneasy regarding Janie... seemed to be a pretty 'air-headed' girl, which is not my favorite take for Ginger... MUCH prefer the savvy, smart roles (think 5th Ave. Girl)... although I TOTALLY love Roxie, and she's about as ditzy as you can get...
Well, Miss Janie finally got to me this time around, as I caught a few more 'subtleties' the girl exhibits... for example, how she 'crossed the lines' between Hamilton and the high society chick... to ultimately hook up with Mr. Moneybags... Ginger playing drunk is overall pretty cute, although maybe a bit TOO cute here, if you understand... but still pretty awesome...
...and how she gave some 'token resistance' to Harry (um, their date began with a slap to the face...) until the bells started ringing... which is why I would have been Harry in this film, slap and all...because if Ginger slaps you, all you think is... "she TOUCHED me!!!"
...Janie pretty much was 'nonplussed' by the Tom dude, even though they were 'steady'...evidently TOO steady... notice they really didn't have any 'fun' scenes, as...they were in the proverbial 'rut'... ...and it goes without saying I could watch Ginger eat ice cream... purt near forever...
The final scene is a bit interesting, although I figured somehow it would end up like it ends up (I won't divulge in case anybody out there has yet to see it...) ...but somehow I think the ultimate ending would have been Phil Silvers rushing in and sweeping Janie off her feet, complete with a gallon of pistachio... hey, ice cream is DEFINITELY an inroad to Ginger's heart, right?
Final analysis... I REALLY like this movie... somewhat fast-paced, and the characters overall are quite well-placed... but the MAIN issue (DUH) is that Ginger just radiates, as usual... late 30's - early 40's Ginger RULES!!!! (well, ALL eras of Ginger RULE, but... just a bit more so here...) ...definitely a cool way to kick off the GingerBinge viewing marathon!
Hope y'all get a chance to see this one if you haven't already...
KIG, y'all!

Love this movie, too! This time around, I more clearly noticed how the musical scoring was done in such a way as to really enhance Ginger's characterization of Janie. Boy, the solo violin really helps those early scenes!! Likewise, the absence of music background actually aided the sense of anticipation as she paused on the stairs at the end, before announcing her verdicts on each suitor. Actually, I'm thinking (just maybe) that the score of this film was more important in this movie than in any other of her non-musical films. And what a complete contrast between this and her immediately previous effort, "Kitty Foyle." Talk about displaying one's acting skills!! Between these two films, she really shows what she's got outside of the music/dancing areas. Good stuff!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the thoughts, BA!!! Yeah, the music is pretty cool throughout...guess I should pay a bit more attention to that.... but for SOME reason, I get distracted by....other aspects of the film... :-)
